Gregory T. Denny and William V. Powell, Jr. each have more than 30 years of work involving Alabama workers' compensation, Social Security Disability, and work-injury crash cases. Both graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, an American Bar Association-accredited law school.

Gregory T. Denny

Gregory T. Denny began studying Alabama workers' compensation while he was in law school and has continued to focus on serious work-injury, return-to-work, medical-treatment, and disability issues throughout his career.

Greg has chaired numerous plaintiff-focused CLE programs, helped arrange and create workers' compensation education programs, and spoken on Alabama workers' compensation issues before lawyers and judges, including Alabama Labor Department conventions and Birmingham Bar Association workers' compensation programs.

Greg was the founder of the Tom Robinson Society, an Alabama law group that studies workers' compensation issues. He was also the first chair and founder of the ALAJ Workers' Compensation Section and the chair and founder of the Birmingham Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section.

For years, Greg moderated and presented the Birmingham Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section's Breakfast with the Judges program.

Greg has served for approximately five years with the Alabama Board of Legal Specialization and has been leading work on the State Bar's pilot program for workers' compensation specialization.

Greg is the recipient of the Birmingham Bar Association Bob Lee Award for Excellence in Workers' Compensation Advocacy and the ALAJ Champions of Justice Award.

William V. Powell, Jr.

Editor of The Alabama Work Injury Report. William V. Powell, Jr. serves as editor of this publication and helps shape its focus on serious Alabama work-injury issues.

William Powell's work has included Alabama workers' compensation, Social Security Disability, trials, hearings, medical proof, return-to-work issues, and serious injury cases where the practical question is whether the worker can realistically return to regular employment.

William has subsequently chaired both the ALAJ Workers' Compensation Section and the Birmingham Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section.

William has taught and worked on issues involving FCEs, unfavorable FCEs, doctor testimony, Social Security basics, and the medical-vocational proof that matters when a worker may not return to the old job.

William is a certified mediator and licensed Alabama attorney. William and Greg have both participated in more than 100 mediations and have spoken before lawyers and judges on a wide variety of Alabama workers' compensation and Social Security Disability issues.

William is also listed as a Super Lawyers member. The materials bank includes reported appellate matters in which William represented injured-worker interests before the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals.
