Why the weekly check matters
When an injured worker cannot return to work, the temporary disability check may be the only money coming into the home. A delay can pressure the worker to return too soon, settle too cheaply, or ignore medical restrictions.
Common red flags
- The check never started after the doctor took the worker out of work.
- The check stopped after a light-duty dispute.
- The check amount appears lower than expected.
- The employer says light duty is available, but the job does not fit the restrictions.
- The worker is told to resign, quit, or use personal leave instead of workers’ compensation benefits.
What to keep
Keep every work note, restriction, pay stub, text, email, light-duty offer, missed-check record, and explanation from the adjuster or employer.
